Libring Team, Henrique Castilho

Henrique Castilho, system architect

At Libring, we aren’t just a company. We are made up of people from around the globe, so we thought it would be cool to show you who we are and what makes the Libring Team the greatest crew around! Hailing from Brazil, Henrique Castilho is not just our system architect, but an integral part of the Libring technical squad.

Have you ever wondered what goes on in the lives of the people behind our great solution? Look no further! Henrique agreed to sit down for a quick chat with us to talk about life, working at Libring, and his time being abroad in the United States.

So, tell me about yourself and your role at Libring!

I’m from Brazil. I’ve lived here my entire childhood. While I was attending my third year of college there, I applied for a government sponsored exchange program, called Science Without Borders, to study in the US. That’s how I was able to spend a year in Boston at UMass. After that, I was very fortunate to do a summer internship at Libring, in June 2013. And here I am!

As the system architect on the Libring Team, I’m responsible for checking the adjustments and changes to the system and defining its architecture to fulfill our requirements. As the tech lead of the company, I manage product requests with the team and make sure we are on the right path. I also interact with the marketing and account management teams to ensure we are all on the same page

What was like to studying in the United States?

It was a real alive opportunity. I have studied English for several years in Brazil, but living in the US for one year gave me the chance to become fluent in the language. Besides, the education in Massachusetts is top tier. When I was studying at UMass Boston, I was able to watch lectures and attend events at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Harvard.

I went to the US to really step up my game and take full advantage of that opportunity. And that’s exactly what I did. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the exchange program. It was a life-changing experience.

What’s your favorite part about working for Libring?

My favorite part is the environment. And the relationship I have with the tech team, the CTO and CEO of the company. I was able to find room to grow and become one of the “key guys.” They respect my opinion and experience and I’m able to contribute with my ideas. Working in such an open-minded environment and being part of a team that loves the work they do is inspiring. Besides, I strongly believe in the project itself.

One of the things that I really enjoy doing at Libring is planning and putting into place new modules and features. It’s very much alike building a system inspired by Tetris or Lego on a larger and more complex scale. We need to decide which technology we’ll be using, how we will integrate the new requirements into our actual system structure, how to manage the time constrains and keep our system performing at its best, among other things.

What do you do for fun?

Right now, I’m working and doing an MBA, so I don’t have a lot of free time in my hands. But I love hanging out with my fianceé and her daughter, watching movies and cooking together. One of the things that I enjoy the most is locking myself in the kitchen and bringing out dishes I’ve cooked to wow them. My fianceé’s daughter, who is thirteen years old, started cooking with me and I’m glad she is really enjoying it!

Thank you so much, Henrique!

My pleasure!
